Broken blades out, new key cut
Snapped Key Extraction
From £65 at your door · £0 call-out
Cold morning, stiff lock, a bit of extra welly — snap. The blade's in the lock, the head's in your hand. Don't poke it deeper: the broken piece comes out clean, and a new key is cut from the pieces before the van leaves.
Out without drilling
Proper extraction tools grip the broken blade and draw it out of the door or ignition without damaging the lock. Superglue tricks and tweezers usually make it worse — leave it be until the van arrives.
New key, same visit
The two halves of your old key carry everything needed to cut a fresh one — and if the chip survived (it usually does, it lives in the head), programming is quick too.
Lock checked after
Keys usually snap because the lock is stiff or the blade was worn. The lock is cleaned and lubricated after extraction so the replacement doesn't meet the same fate.
From £65 all-in to start
Extraction from £65 with no call-out fee. Add a cut-and-programmed replacement key and you're still miles under what a dealer charges for the key alone.
Good to know
Common questions.
My key snapped in the lock — can I get the bit out myself?+
Please don't try superglue — one wobble and you've glued the lock shut for good. If a few millimetres protrude, fine needle-nose pliers may work; anything flush or deeper needs extraction tools. It's a from-£65 job done in minutes, versus a drilled lock if DIY goes wrong.
Can you make a new key from the broken pieces?+
Yes — the blade halves give the mechanical cut and the head usually contains an intact transponder chip, so a full working replacement is cut and programmed on the same visit.
Why did my key snap?+
Age and force: blades fatigue at the shoulder over years of use, and a stiff, dry lock in winter provides the final twist. If your key is visibly worn or bent, get a spare cut from code now — before it snaps somewhere inconvenient.
Key snapped in the ignition — is that worse?+
It's the same extraction job, just in a tighter space. The barrel is not drilled — the piece comes out with extraction tools, the barrel gets checked and lubricated, and a new key is cut. If the barrel itself is worn, you'll get a straight quote for an ignition repair.
